Hook0 Alternative: Webhook Relay vs Hook0 for Sending Webhooks (2026)
Hook0 vs Webhook Relay for outbound webhooks: Standard Webhooks vs a custom signature, SOC 2 Type II, 35-day history from $9.99/mo vs daily event caps from €59/mo.

Webhook Relay is a Hook0 alternative for teams that want Standard Webhooks signing, SOC 2 Type II and 35 days of delivery history from $9.99/month, with no daily event caps. Both are hosted webhooks-as-a-service for sending your product's events to your customers. Hook0 is EU-based and source-available (SSPL), with an embeddable subscriber portal and per-day event quotas. Webhook Relay's Outbound Gateway signs every delivery with Standard Webhooks, transforms payloads per endpoint, and shares an account with inbound webhooks, private-network delivery and tunnels.
TL;DR
- Want Standard Webhooks your customers can verify with any library? Webhook Relay. Hook0 uses its own
X-Hook0-Signatureheader and lists Standard Webhooks as planned. - Need SOC 2 Type II from the vendor? Webhook Relay is certified. Hook0's pricing and security pages don't list a SOC 2 report of its own.
- Need to self-host, an EU-headquartered vendor, or a subscriber portal today? Hook0.
- Moving from Hook0? Receivers switch to Standard Webhooks verification; a compatible existing secret can be imported so customers keep their key. See the Hook0 migration guide.
Hook0's "Hook0 vs Webhook Relay" page, answered
Hook0 publishes Hook0 vs Webhook Relay: Sending vs Receiving Webhooks (last reviewed 2026-10-06). It's a fair page about the product we had before October 2026. Its main conclusion, "If you receive webhooks, pick Webhook Relay. If you send them, pick Hook0", no longer holds. Row by row, as of 2026-10-11:
| Hook0's row for Webhook Relay | Status | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Primary role: "Inbound webhook gateway and tunnels" | Out of date | Webhook Relay also sends webhooks to your customers with the Outbound Gateway. |
| Webhook direction: "Inbound (you receive from third parties)" | Out of date | Both directions, on one account. |
| Signatures: "Not stated" | Now stated | Outbound deliveries carry Standard Webhooks webhook-id, webhook-timestamp and webhook-signature (HMAC-SHA256, whsec_ secrets, 24-hour rotation overlap). See the receiving guide. |
| Subscriber portal: "Not applicable (not an outbound sender)" | Partly true | We are an outbound sender now. An embeddable portal is not available yet; it's the next phase. |
| Transformations: "JavaScript and Lua functions, filters" | True | And outbound endpoints can run a JavaScript Function. Hook0 lists transformations as "Not offered" for itself. |
| Free plan: "150 webhooks per month, no tunnels" | True for inbound | Outbound starts on Basic ($9.99). |
| Hosting: "Google Cloud (region not stated)" | True | We run on Google Cloud (security docs). Our public docs don't name a region; ask us if you need it in writing. |
| Publisher: "AppScension Ltd (UK)" | True | |
| Self-hosted option "via sales" / Source "Not stated" | True | The Outbound Gateway is hosted only and closed source. |
One thing Hook0's page leaves out on both sides is compliance: Webhook Relay is SOC 2 Type II certified.

Cost as you grow
Hook0 quotas are per day, so this assumes volume spread evenly over a 30-day month.
| Messages per month | Webhook Relay (35 days) | Hook0 Startup (14 days) | Hook0 Pro (30 days) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100,000 | $9.99 | €59 | €190 |

List prices checked 2026-10-10 on hook0.com/pricing: Startup includes 30,000 events/day then €0.003 per event; Pro includes 100,000 events/day then €0.0001 per event. Webhook Relay: $9.99 Basic for up to 100 customers, $79.99 Business for 500, $249.99 Pro for 1,000, at any of these volumes.
Where Hook0 is strong
- EU vendor, EU hosting by default. A French company with no US entity, running on Clever Cloud in France. For teams whose data-protection officer rules out US-owned vendors, that settles it.
- Self-hosting. The server is source-available under SSPL-1.0 and the SDKs are MIT, so you can run the whole stack yourself, or pay for managed on-prem.
- An embeddable subscriber portal, which we don't have yet.
- Bootstrapped and transparent about how it's run.
Where Webhook Relay is different
- Standard Webhooks today. Customers verify with any Standard Webhooks library or our free verifier, with nothing vendor-specific.
- SOC 2 Type II from the vendor itself, useful when a security questionnaire asks how your webhooks are delivered.
- No daily caps. Pricing follows how many customers you serve, so a burst day or a backfill doesn't trigger overage.
- Per-endpoint lanes and recovery. Each endpoint has its own rate limit, concurrency and retry schedule; failing endpoints are tracked and recovered in bulk.
- Producer-side transforms. Tailor the payload for one customer with a JavaScript Function.
- Both directions on one account. Receive webhooks, forward them into localhost and private networks, run tunnels, and send your own. Test your outbound endpoint against a free Webhook Bin.
What we don't have yet: a subscriber portal, queue destinations, self-hosting, a Python SDK, HIPAA/PCI, and more than 1,000 customers per account.
